Cathryn's Bio

cathryn Cathryn Friswell developed her love of sewing and costume making from her grandmother who taught her how to sew and knit as a child. She designed her first costume for a school book week when she was eight, a princess costume complete with crinoline which she helped her grandmother to make. This inspired her to take textiles in year 12 where she went on to design and make her own formal dress, based on a medieval dress, made of satin and lace and hand beaded. She also made a floor length cotton pintucked edwardian night gown for a client.

She began developing her costume making skills further at Brighton Bay school of art and design in 1999 where she created a series of wearable art costumes. Later headed towards fashion she studied at RMIT where she did the Fashion Design course in 2001.

This year she will be making a costume for a lady and gent of the Victorian era focusing on tailoring skills and attention to period detail.
